The White House says President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order Monday promoting artificial intelligence.
“AI is something that touches every aspect of people’s lives,” a senior administration official told reporters ahead of the signing. “What this initiative attempts to do is to bring all those together under one umbrella and show the promise of this technology for the American people.”
The order calls for making federal data and computing resources more accessible to researchers, and for federal government agencies to use fellowships and training programs to prepare workers to operate in positions that utilize artificial intelligence.
It also says that while the United States should boost research and development and work with other countries, there need to be safeguards in place to protect data.
The executive order does not include any details about funding the initiative.
